Esteban Ocon joins Haas F1, bringing determination, experience, and ambition as he aims to push the American team to new heights.
Esteban Ocon Signs Multi-Year Deal with Haas F1, Set to Lead Team from 2025
Esteban Ocon has signed with Haas F1 on a multi-year contract and will become the lead driver for the American team from 2025. Team principal Ayao Komatsu explained why the French driver was given priority and the key criteria behind his signing.
“I wanted someone young,” Komatsu stated. “Young and experienced. Esteban was 27 when I signed him, so he was still very young. And yes, he has stood on the podium, scored many points, but I believe he still has a lot to improve.”
“I wanted someone hungry, but also well-known and young enough. However, determination and work ethic are the most important elements for me because we are a small team. We still have many gaps in terms of process and methodology.”
According to the Japanese team principal, Ocon has the technical ability to take on roles beyond just driving: “What Nico [Hülkenberg] did very well was really drive, be at the center of the team, lead development, and contribute to discussions on how we should develop the car.”
“I wanted someone who would do that actively, rather than just showing up on race weekends to drive or attending a simulator session when asked. I wanted someone highly motivated, determined to improve and push the team forward, relentlessly. And Esteban is that kind of character.”
