Ocon Hails Laura Müller: F1 Engineer of Remarkable Dedication

Esteban Ocon Praises Haas Team’s Family Spirit and Drive

Esteban Ocon praises Laura Müller’s exceptional dedication and the strong, family-like atmosphere at Haas F1, boosting his confidence for the season ahead.

Esteban Ocon began working this year with a new race engineer, Laura Müller. The Haas F1 driver spent the winter, the Bahrain tests, and the first five races alongside her, and he has praised her work in the Beyond the Grid podcast.

“It’s fantastic to work with Laura,” Ocon said. “She’s an excellent engineer. She has a lot of experience in various categories. She’s been involved in DTM, which I’ve also done, so that’s a common ground we share. But she has worked in many different fields, and her career trajectory is really impressive.”

“It’s amazing working with her. The number of hours she puts into her work is truly remarkable. She doesn’t count her hours.”

“I remember in Suzuka, we had a tough race, but we still had meetings and debriefs because the performance wasn’t what we wanted. She didn’t stop for a sandwich or drink for probably the whole day.”

“She told me, ‘Esteban, I’ll probably eat now, it’s 7:30 or 8 in the evening.’ I asked, ‘You haven’t eaten yet?’ and she replied, ‘No,’ because she was so caught up in her work.”

The French driver is happy to have found a team with a family-like atmosphere, similar to what he experienced at Force India in 2017 and 2018, but with better resources: “The first impression I had of the team was that it’s like a big family.”

“This team really welcomed me, and I immediately felt at home. It’s a fresh start for me. I feel like I’ve integrated well with everyone, and everyone is hungry and motivated to get results.”

“They take pride in everything they do when they do it. It’s fantastic because if you’re not proud of the work you do, there’s no point in doing it. It’s really amazing to be part of such a team and, hopefully, to keep making progress this year.”

“The atmosphere, the family spirit—it’s very much like what I had at Force India, but we don’t feel small. This team feels like a big team because of what it accomplishes. When we need something, it comes faster than what I’ve experienced in the past.”

“Ayao could tell you plenty about areas that need improvement, but I don’t feel like we’re small because the quality of the work is impressive. I don’t feel like we’re lacking personnel because everyone is doing their best to help me in every possible way.”
