Ocon and Gasly powered Alpine F1 to a rare double podium with a mix of sharp strategy and stellar racecraft in Brazil.
Alpine F1 delivered an exceptional performance this Sunday, showcasing the skill and mastery of its driver duo. Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly secured a double podium, the first for the Enstone-based team in over a decade. Ocon, who qualified fourth, celebrated the day, crediting a well-timed strategy and the second-fastest pace in wet conditions, just behind Max Verstappen.
“What a day! After a tough season, it’s fantastic to be driving here and to deliver this performance. In the rain, the playing field is levelled,” said the Frenchman, before paying homage to Ayrton Senna.
“Someone very important to all of us once said that in the rain, cars become almost equal. I’m thrilled to be on the podium today, and the support from the fans is incredible.”
However, Ocon clarified that the A524 had not suddenly become a stronger car: “No, the car was very challenging on the dry track, and it was easier this morning in the wet. I love racing here in the rain, and we had a really good race.”
Pierre Gasly, meanwhile, had been frustrated after qualifying and his elimination in Q2, yet he too capitalised on a mid-race red flag and a patient strategy to secure another podium. He shared in the team’s delight, calling this success a rare bright spot amid a challenging season.
“It’s incredible for the entire team. We’ve had such a difficult season, struggling to score points, and in these conditions, anything is possible. Two cars on the podium – I don’t think anyone would have predicted that!” Gasly remarked.
“Yesterday, the pace in the dry was solid, finishing seventh, but qualifying was disappointing. I didn’t get a lap on intermediates in Q2 and started 13th. But I managed to climb ten places, and I’m delighted. I’m proud of the team for overcoming such a challenging season. It would have been easy to give up, and here we are!”
