Jack Doohan will replace Esteban Ocon at the Abu Dhabi GP, with Ocon set for post-season testing with Haas F1.

Alpine F1 confirmed, as expected following last night’s speculation after the Qatar GP, the participation of its reserve driver Jack Doohan in the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, replacing Esteban Ocon.

This change allows Esteban to be freed up for his testing duties with Haas F1 at the Abu Dhabi post-season tests.

Already confirmed as an official driver alongside Pierre Gasly for the 2025 season, Jack Doohan will race with the number 61, his registered reserve driver number, and will also take part in the team’s end-of-season tests at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.

“The team would like to thank Esteban for his time with the team, where he will remain in history after securing Alpine’s first-ever Formula 1 victory. We wish Esteban all the best for the future,” the statement read, with no further comments from the team principals or the French driver.

Nothing prevented Ocon from taking part in the final Grand Prix for Alpine F1 and then switching to his Haas F1 test after the race. However, the theory of pressure being applied to the French driver appears to have been confirmed with this announcement.
