Coulthard lauds Norris’s Singapore GP, placing him alongside F1 legends like Senna and Schumacher.
David Coulthard was effusive about Lando Norris’s victory in Singapore last weekend, comparing it to the achievements of greats like Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, or Lewis Hamilton.
“It’s a masterclass,” Coulthard told Channel 4. “A brush without missing a turn shows he nailed it perfectly. The only real surprise came at the end of the lap when he had a lockup and ended up brushing the barrier.”
“Otherwise, it’s flawless. What a performance! Man and machine in perfect harmony. He was like that from the first practice session on Friday. He got the better of Oscar who did a very good job, overtaking him to get on the podium.”
“It’s as though Lando is so humble and approachable that he doesn’t realize the greatness and significance of his performances at the moment. I want to put him in the league of Senna, Schumacher, Hamilton at their best. Anyone can win a grand prix with a bit of luck, but this was exceptional.”
According to Coulthard, Red Bull might do to Sergio Pérez what happened to Daniel Ricciardo: “He was brilliant in Baku, but one swallow doesn’t make a summer. A good result isn’t what you expect, even if he is the team’s number two driver.”
“There was a lot of relief, I think, after Baku. And then here, it’s a bit back to reality. If he doesn’t continue to score solid points until the end of the year, then, like Daniel Ricciardo who was shown the door, it could be the same situation for Pérez.”
