Norris Was 'Nervous' but 'Pushed the Whole Race' to Win in Monaco

Lando Norris wins Monaco Grand Prix with pole, fastest lap, and victory, securing a perfect F1 weekend for McLaren in Monte Carlo.

Lando Norris delivered a flawless weekend by achieving a hat trick with pole position, race victory, and fastest lap at the Monaco Grand Prix. The McLaren F1 driver executed a perfect weekend and a patient race behind Max Verstappen, who had to pit and did so on the final lap, keeping Charles Leclerc behind him under control.

“It’s incredible. It was a long race, but fun — we were able to push the whole way. I was nervous in the last corner with Charles behind and Max in front, but we won in Monaco. It’s an amazing weekend — a childhood dream come true,” said Norris.

Interviewed by Jenson Button, the Briton thanked the 2009 World Champion for bringing him luck: “It was you — I saw you in front of my car before the race and thought, if JB is here, I can win!”

“I controlled the race, but Max was ahead and slowing me down, and I knew that would give Charles a chance. I had to keep a gap behind Max so I could manage and push when I needed to. I’m happy, my team is happy, and it’s going to be a great evening!”

Oscar Piastri finished third after starting from that position, securing a double podium and 33 more points for the team: “Winning would have been better, but it’s been a tough weekend.”

“It was tricky all weekend — I didn’t have confidence in qualifying, but things improved over the course of the event. Still, I wasn’t close enough — qualifying is too important here. So I have things to work on for when we come back next year, but I scored points and took a second podium here.”

Despite some frustration, the Australian is satisfied: “The gaps are really tight, and if this is a bad weekend, it’s not bad at all! A few small things to improve for next week and come back stronger, but Lando had a great weekend. Congrats to him and to Charles.”
