Norris Shines in Rain as McLaren Secures First 2024 Win

Brown Hails Norris’ Victory but Feels for Piastri’s Struggles

16/03/2025

Lando Norris delivered a stunning wet-weather victory in Melbourne, but McLaren boss Zak Brown remained torn—celebrating Norris while sympathizing with Oscar Piastri’s misfortune.

Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren, couldn’t hide his excitement after Lando Norris secured the team’s first win of the season in Melbourne. However, the challenging wet conditions nearly turned the race upside down multiple times.

Despite the tricky track, Norris managed to hold off Max Verstappen, navigating several heart-stopping moments along the way.

“An incredible drive from Lando. The team executed a flawless strategy in extremely tough conditions,” Brown praised.

At the same time, he expressed disappointment for Oscar Piastri, who faced the same rainy challenges but couldn’t capitalize as well as his teammate.

“I feel bad for Oscar. They both hit the rain at the same time, but Lando just handled it slightly better.”

Even so, Piastri delivered a strong comeback to finish ninth, adding to what Brown described as a “thrilling race.”

The McLaren boss also took a moment to acknowledge the team’s efforts:

“Everyone at McLaren has done an amazing job building a true race car.”

Cautious Optimism for McLaren’s Early Season Form

Despite McLaren’s strong performance in Melbourne, Brown remained cautious about drawing long-term conclusions.

“It looked good today, but it’s just one race, one circuit. Let’s see what happens in China,” he warned.

He reflected on last season’s unpredictability, noting how Red Bull dominated early on before the competitive landscape shifted.

“Last year, Max won the first seven races, and then we hit a dry spell. We need to keep this momentum going.”

Brown emphasized the ever-changing nature of Formula 1 and the importance of continuous improvement.

“Things evolve so quickly in this sport. We just have to keep pushing forward—and that’s exactly what McLaren has been doing in recent years.”

McLaren’s win in Melbourne signals a promising start, but as Brown wisely pointed out, consistency is key in the race for success.
