Lando Norris’s Abu Dhabi triumph secured McLaren’s Constructors’ title, capping a dramatic season finale marked by chaos and brilliance.

Lando Norris clinched victory in the final Formula 1 Grand Prix of the 2024 season, securing the Constructors’ Championship for McLaren.

The 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix delivered drama and saw Lando Norris take a crucial win for McLaren. With this performance, the British team edged out Ferrari to claim the Constructors’ title. Here’s a recap of a race filled with spectacular incidents and individual brilliance.

Verstappen sparks chaos at the start

Right from the first corner, Max Verstappen triggered a collision with Oscar Piastri’s McLaren, sending both cars spinning. This incident jeopardized McLaren’s hopes in the Constructors’ battle. Moments later, Sergio Pérez fell victim to an error, ending his race early after a spin.

The virtual safety car was deployed to clear the track. At the restart, Charles Leclerc had already made an extraordinary leap of 11 places, climbing to eighth. Meanwhile, Oscar Piastri found himself down in 18th.

Pierre Gasly, running third in the early laps, impressed by holding off George Russell. His efforts helped Alpine secure sixth in the Constructors’ standings. However, a pit stop on Lap 14 dropped him to 10th, as Charles Leclerc continued his stunning charge through the field.

Leclerc and Hamilton steal the spotlight

Charles Leclerc maintained his momentum, overtaking Kevin Magnussen and Fernando Alonso to break into the top six. For Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton, in his final race with the team, adopted an alternate tire strategy. After a late pit stop, the Briton executed a series of spectacular overtakes, including a dramatic move on teammate George Russell in the final lap.

McLaren crowned, Norris supreme

Lando Norris dominated the race, fending off Carlos Sainz’s challenges to secure victory. With Oscar Piastri recovering to 10th, McLaren earned the points needed to surpass Ferrari in the Constructors’ standings.

This victory marks a resurgence for McLaren, reclaiming glory, while Lewis Hamilton ends his Mercedes career with a remarkable performance. A season that concludes triumphantly for some raises questions for others, particularly Red Bull and Sergio Pérez.
