Lando Norris warns McLaren to maintain focus, stressing no room for complacency as they chase Red Bull’s lead.
Lando Norris has warned McLaren F1 against any complacency despite their current form compared to Red Bull.
Norris easily won the Singapore Grand Prix after securing pole position, marking his third race victory of the year.
He has closed the gap to 52 points behind Max Verstappen, who leads the drivers’ championship but is currently not matching Norris’s pace.
“Only 52 points? Or still 52 points? It’s both a lot and a little. There are two ways to look at it. Progress is being made, but it’s still a lot of points to make up, especially when Max finishes second. The gap doesn’t close that quickly.”
“I feel like I’ve been performing well over the past few months. Different circumstances didn’t allow me to achieve results like in Singapore, but I believe I’ve been racing at this level over the last two, three, four weekends.”
“I’d like to be closer in the championship. We’ve taken things head-on, and we’re moving forward. I was the fastest all weekend in Singapore and dominated the race, which feels good. It’s great motivation for the team.”
“I’m happy, but we need to keep working hard because I’m sure Red Bull will catch up. I want my races to be smooth and easy! That’s the only way I can close the gap.”
McLaren has significantly overtaken Red Bull at the top of the constructors’ championship, but everything will depend on the updates teams bring to Austin.
“We’re doing well right now. I want to keep going! Forget the break, let’s head straight to Austin. The team is doing an incredible job, but we’re up against Red Bull. They will respond. People are too quick to write them off.”
“When you’re up against Red Bull, you’re up against Max. They’ve been dominating the sport for several years. It’s tough competition. When you’ve got Max and Red Bull behind you, you push! They’ll do everything they can, so we cannot afford any complacency.”
