Norris remains steadfast, asserting he’d adopt the same approach in a rematch with Verstappen in Austria.
Lando Norris would do the same against Max Verstappen if faced with the same situation again. The McLaren F1 driver twice attacked his rival on the inside, misjudging his braking after a shift from Red Bull, and then tried to overtake on the outside, where the Dutchman collided with him.
“I’ve reviewed everything, we’ve discussed it thoroughly, and let’s just say I wouldn’t really change what I did,” Norris stated today before Silverstone.
“I fought, and that’s what we want, we want to fight! We don’t want to complain, we don’t want things to end the way they did, both for Max and for me.”
“That’s life, sometimes. We fight, we both want to win and we will push our limits, some a bit more than others. At the same time, I’m excited. We’re going to have more battles together, and I’m looking forward to it.”
Norris tempers the misdeeds of each party, reminding that track battles are not easy to deliver: “It’s tough. It’s a lot harder to do certain things when you’re behind the wheel.”
“It’s never as simple as saying ‘why did you do that? Why didn’t you do this?’ Because when you’re in the car making those decisions, it’s very difficult to be as precise as what we see on TV. When there’s a two-centimeter gap or things like that, it’s almost impossible to judge.”
“But that’s how it is, it’s the competition we face, and we love it. We want tough races and we want it to be easy, because we just want to win. But at the same time, it brings a smile to our faces when we can have that competition in a race, and I think that’s good for everyone watching.”
