Norris voices reservations but follows McLaren’s plan, helping secure six crucial points over Ferrari in a tense Sprint

Lando Norris clinched the Brazil Sprint following a somewhat turbulent race on McLaren F1’s part. The British driver requested a position swap that he and the team had evidently discussed pre-race. The switch took a while to come, but Oscar Piastri ultimately obliged.

“I’m not particularly proud of it, but we worked as a team, and I appreciate Oscar’s cooperation. We did a good job; it was the outcome we aimed for. Oscar deserved it, but we did what we had to do. Thanks to the team; we had good pace, and I’m looking forward to qualifying and the race,” Norris stated.

Norris even hinted at making an overtaking attempt but admitted it would have been challenging: “It’s tough; the gap kept yo-yoing—I’d catch up, and he’d pull away again, with a lot of dirty air in between. I was faster but couldn’t get past. We were quicker than those behind, but managing it in these Sprints isn’t easy.”

Oscar Piastri had a somewhat challenging race but was pleased with McLaren’s performance and result: “It was a bit tricky, bumpy, and the racing line was tight. It’s a great day for the team and a strong haul of points.”

“We’ll try to replicate this in tomorrow’s race. I’m optimistic; our pace was solid. But the Ferraris were quick at the start, and Max had strong pace at the end. There are a few things we want to improve for tomorrow, but it’s been a good day.”
