Lando Norris is thrilled to start the 2025 F1 season in Melbourne, a track that better suits McLaren’s strengths over Bahrain.
Lando Norris is all smiles as the 2025 Formula 1 season kicks off in Melbourne instead of Bahrain. The McLaren driver knows that the Sakhir circuit has never played to the team’s strengths, so starting on a track that suits the MCL39 better is a big plus.
“I can’t wait to be there—I love Australia,” Norris said. “Bahrain has never really worked out for us. We’ve had a lot of struggles, not necessarily because of the track itself, but just general difficulties.”
Last year, McLaren showed solid pace in Melbourne, something that boosts Norris’ confidence heading into this season. “It was early in the year, but if you look at how we performed then and how much we improved later on, that race actually turned out pretty well for us.”
What makes Albert Park a good fit for McLaren? “It’s got a mix of medium- and high-speed corners, and that’s where we’re usually strong,” he explained. “There aren’t really any bad corners for us—it’s just about fine margins here and there compared to other cars.”
While he doesn’t mind racing in Bahrain, Norris welcomes the change of scenery. “Bahrain feels like a home race for McLaren, and I do like it. But it’s good to start somewhere different, build momentum, and hit the ground running.”
