Lando Norris has denied recent rally car test rumors, criticizing the media for spreading false stories without consulting him first.
Lando Norris has strongly denied claims that he recently tested a rally car, responding to a story by journalist Peter Windsor. Windsor, known for his credibility, had reported that Norris had shown impressive speed in a rally car, but the McLaren F1 driver was quick to refute the rumors.
“I really wish I could come here and say ‘It’s true,’ but it’s not,” Norris said. “I mentioned a few years ago that I’m not allowed to. Zak [Brown, CEO of McLaren] won’t let me drive rally cars, probably for a good reason. But I’ve said multiple times that I’d love to do it.”
Norris also expressed his frustration over the spread of baseless rumors. He criticized the media for creating false stories without first checking with him. “It’s so strange that people make up these things in the media. It’s frustrating not to be asked for my side before they publish this stuff,” he added.
While he’s not been able to pursue a rally career, Norris acknowledged his fascination with the sport. “I have a lot of respect for rally drivers. They’re definitely crazy, a little bit mad, but I’d love to do it because it’s so different from what I do now.”
He continued, “But it’s still driving, still cars, and probably with more danger, so I’m not sure how much I’d enjoy it. But it’s one of those things I’d like to tick off in my life—experience it and try it. So hopefully, one day, that can make the headlines and actually become true.”
Norris’s comments reflect both his admiration for rally driving and his desire to keep control over the stories about his career.
