Norris Admits Right Move, Bitter Over Loss

21/07/2024

Norris accepts the tough call as right, while Lando bitterly reflects on ceding victory to his teammate.

Over an hour following the conclusion of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Lando Norris is still visibly aggrieved, yet he acknowledges that it was “fair” to relinquish the lead to Oscar Piastri, even though “it hurts”.

“It’s tough. It would be tough for anyone to give up the lead in a race.”

“I was obviously put in this position. They put me in the lead and gave me the opportunity to pull ahead comfortably and do what I was doing.”

“They gave me the opportunity to do so, that’s what I want to emphasize. Therefore, I think it was fair to give back the position. I don’t want to appear as the guy who isn’t fair. Oscar has done a lot for me in the past and has supported me in numerous races.”

“He had a better race than me. He had a good start, a better start, and mine was awful. He deserved it and it was the right thing to do.”

“It hurts every time you have to give up a victory and hand it over to someone else. I know I shouldn’t have been in that position in the first place, which I think is the main point.”

“When you’re leading the race and you have to give up the victory, it hurts because in a drivers’ championship, every point counts.”

“I know I’m far behind Max in the championship, I understand that, but it’s seven points I lost today, not because of a position change, but simply due to a bad start. That’s where I lost my race today.”

“It was difficult, it hurts, but I don’t want it to overshadow the fact that we achieved a one-two finish as a team. It’s an incredible achievement for everyone involved.”
