Lando Norris snatched victory in the Miami Sprint, aided by a fortunate safety car, while Oscar Piastri eyes a stronger performance ahead.
Lando Norris took the Miami Sprint victory, with a stroke of luck on his side. He timed his pit stop perfectly, coinciding with Fernando Alonso’s crash, which brought out the safety car. This allowed the McLaren F1 driver to rejoin the race in the lead.
Before the pit stops, Norris had already been applying pressure on his teammate, Oscar Piastri, who had made a mistake at the chicane during the lap before heading to the pits.
“My luck in Miami seems pretty good!” Norris shared after the race. “I’m happy with the pace, but these races are always tough. You can stop early and it might work out, like it did for Lewis with a good strategy, or you can stay out for a long time and hope for a safety car.”
“It worked out two years in a row. I’d have preferred it to happen tomorrow rather than today, but I’m still happy. Great job by the whole team, and I had a lot of fun!”
Looking ahead to the upcoming qualifying, Norris has his sights set on victory: “That’s the plan, but it’s tricky with so many fast cars around us. I felt good yesterday, made a few mistakes, but I’m ready to get back to it!”
Oscar Piastri, while disappointed, acknowledges that luck can be a factor in Formula 1. “I feel like I did everything right. I’m disappointed to finish second, but that’s how it goes sometimes.”
“Racing is about having some good fortune too. Hopefully, we’ll have more luck this afternoon and tomorrow. I had a strong start, gave it my all, so I’m happy with what I did.”
“We had great pace in yesterday’s Sprint qualifying, and we’ll carry that forward into this afternoon, keeping that in mind. The car is fast, and we’ll work to make it even quicker and capitalize on it tomorrow in the race.”
