Norris Eyes Title in Stealth Mode, Stays Focused

27/08/2024

Lando Norris subtly targets the F1 championship, emphasizing a focused, race-by-race approach to the season.

Even though Lando Norris isn’t too focused on upcoming races, it’s hard to ignore that he is now 70 points behind Verstappen in the championship, with nine races left in the season, and everything seems possible given his dominance in the Netherlands.

His boss, Andrea Stella, acknowledges that the drivers’ title is becoming a goal, a comeback like Sebastian Vettel’s in 2013 is possible (read here).

Does Norris have this in mind?

“I’ve been fighting for the championship since the first race of the year. There’s no sudden decision to make now.”

“But to get there, I need to do better. I’ve worked hard all year and I’m still 70 points behind Max. So, it’s foolish to think about anything right now.”

“I take the races one at a time and keep doing what I’m doing now because there’s no point in thinking about the future and the rest. I’m not concerned about it at the moment. I’m just… Yes, I focus on one race at a time. So, it’s not a question you should ask me every weekend.”

Norris will certainly have a good idea of what’s possible to aim for with the Italian Grand Prix and its track quite different from Zandvoort’s. What to expect from the MCL38 at the Temple of Speed while the Red Bull is a missile on the straights?

“I have no idea. You ask us questions as if we’re supposed to know. I have no idea. Anyone could be on top. Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull, us.”

“The Ferraris were quite fast this Sunday. We probably didn’t expect them to be as good as they were. Red Bull might have struggled a bit more than we expected.”

“We keep our heads down. There’s no point in thinking about what we’ll do next weekend. We’ll go there, work hard, and wait until we arrive. There’s no point in thinking about the future.”
