Lando Norris needed three attempts to beat Lewis Hamilton, learning quickly from early mistakes in an intense Jeddah scrap.
Lando Norris needed three laps to finally get past Lewis Hamilton in Jeddah, after the Ferrari driver managed to reclaim his spot on the straight. The McLaren driver enjoyed the battle and was pleasantly surprised that the dirty air did not affect him as much during the race.
“I was pretty happy with it. Lewis did a great job. It took me three laps to get by him. On the first attempt, I thought I had it done, but he caught me off guard and got back ahead,” Norris said. “The second time, he braked earlier than I expected and surprised me again, so it happened twice.”
“By the third time, I learned my lesson and made it stick. Honestly, that was probably the biggest challenge. The rest of the race was solid. The pace was really strong and clean air makes a huge difference here.”
“Even if the car ahead has a five-second gap, you can still feel it. When they pit and you get clear air, the car comes alive again, the tires cool down a bit, and everything feels much better. Overtaking wasn’t too bad but closing that final second was the hardest part. I’m really happy with P4. It was a strong comeback.”
Norris admits that managing pressure better and trusting himself more are keys to unlocking his full potential.
“I was trying to do that. When I perform well, I’m relaxed and having fun,” he said. “Right now, I probably put too much pressure on myself. It’s not because of the championship or anything like that. I just really want to do well. I want to be on pole, I want to win, and I want to be perfect.”
“But I need to accept that I won’t always be perfect. Sometimes I make mistakes because I’m pushing too hard for perfection. I think I need to relax more and trust my speed a little bit more. Honestly, my pace in Jeddah and throughout this season has been some of the best of my career.”
“I’m confident I can win races if I give myself a better shot on Saturdays. Of course, that’s easier said than done, but that’s what I’m focusing on now.”
