No Pace, No Points: Aston Martin Struggles in Bahrain

Aston Martin’s 2025 season begins in disaster as both drivers struggle to keep pace in a dismal Bahrain Grand Prix showing.

Aston Martin endured a tough night under the lights in Sakhir, with both Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll struggling to find any form throughout the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Alonso finished a distant 16th, unable to take advantage of the race’s few unpredictable moments — including the safety car. The two-time world champion remained scoreless after a weekend where the AMR car simply lacked pace.

“We’ve been off the pace all weekend — and especially tonight,” Alonso admitted. “I tried to stretch the stint on the medium tyres, but the safety car reset everything and didn’t really help us. We knew this track would be tough, but now the focus shifts to improving the car for the races ahead. Jeddah is a different kind of challenge, so let’s see if we can bounce back there.”

Lance Stroll had an even tougher time, crossing the line 18th — second-to-last.

“There’s not much to say about today. The whole weekend was a struggle,” he said. “We’re not where we want to be, but everyone’s working hard to fix that. Jeddah is a different track, and while we’re not expecting miracles, we’ll keep pushing and see what we can take from this.”

Team Principal Mike Krack didn’t sugarcoat the situation.

“It was a tough weekend and a processional race that gave us very few chances to recover,” Krack said. “We lacked pace across all tyre compounds and were never in the fight for points. The safety car didn’t help either — most drivers managed to pit and keep their positions. We’ll go back, review everything, and keep pushing to find improvements before we head to Jeddah.”
