No Clues for Lawson on Red Bull Future

Lawson Uncertain About Red Bull 2025 Seat

05/12/2024

Liam Lawson remains in the dark over his 2025 Red Bull seat, with no indications from team bosses ahead of key decisions.

Lawson revealed that he has received “no indication” that he could join Red Bull Racing in 2025, despite growing rumors suggesting he is the favorite to replace Sergio Perez, who is facing the possibility of retirement or being dropped.

Lawson is considered the driver likely to step in, although Yuki Tsunoda is still in the running. However, the latter is not seen as the preferred option, based on Dr. Marko’s comments.

While Lawson emphasized that he is ready to seize the opportunity if it arises, he pointed out that his focus remains on RB F1’s goal of finishing sixth in the championship this Sunday.

“To be honest, I have absolutely no idea. I hope to find out soon personally, of course, but I’m confident the team will do what’s right, and I’m sure they won’t take too long with this decision.”

“Obviously, it would be the biggest challenge to race against Max, but in a way, it’s also the best spot on the grid. You learn directly from the best. You have access to his data every session and can see exactly how he performs.”

“But, honestly, it’s not something I’m thinking about right now. This weekend is very, very important. We’re fighting for the best possible position in the Constructors’ Championship. That’s really my focus right now. And as a team, that’s what we’re aiming for at the moment.”

“Beyond that, my goal is to be in a Red Bull Racing car in the future. But I have no indication or feeling about when that might happen. If the opportunity arises, I think I’d be ready to take it. But for now, I’m focused on this weekend.”

Lawson denied that Red Bull boss Christian Horner or advisor Helmut Marko gave him any clues this week about what could happen on Monday after the shareholder meeting.

“No, honestly, I’ve had the same conversations as usual. Advice to focus on the weekend and obviously do my best. Then, after the weekend, I’ll have a clearer idea of what I’ll be doing next year.”

Lawson has been involved in several incidents since his return, including a run-in with Perez in Mexico, with Alonso in Brazil, and a collision with Valtteri Bottas in Qatar. Lawson rejects the idea that his aggressive driving was an attempt to impress Red Bull.

“Honestly, I race the same way I always have. It’s not something I’m trying to do (impress) or act in a certain way to show them anything.”

“I’m just trying to do the best job I can in the car. That’s how I’ve always done it. And it’s up to them to decide whether they like it or not.”

“Obviously, if there’s something I’m doing that can be improved, they’ll tell me, and I’ll work on it. But as far as my attitude toward a race or a race weekend… nothing’s changed.”

“You can always look back at the races and think you could have done a better job. Overall, though, it’s good. I’m happy with my performance.”

“But there are things you can observe and learn from, and there are certainly things I can look at from these races and take lessons from for the future.”

“Overall, I would say I’m very happy.”

The New Zealander also highlighted how this busy end to the season has kept him from worrying about 2025.

“Honestly, maybe next week it will be more frustrating to wait, if I still don’t know. But not right now, because we’re still racing.”

“You know, we’re at the end of another triple-header. I’ve been so busy that I haven’t really had the time to think about my frustration over whether I’ll be kept in place or not.”

“I’ve got so many things to prepare or do with these races that it’s really where my focus lies.”
