Aston Martin F1 gears up for a major announcement as Adrian Newey’s camp opts for silence, sparking rampant speculation.
Adrian Newey’s manager, Eddie Jordan, has declined to comment on rumors that Formula 1’s most renowned designer will indeed join Aston Martin F1 next year.
Speculation continued to rise at Monza and yesterday about an imminent announcement, particularly as Aston Martin F1 sent out an invitation for a press conference scheduled for September 10 (next Tuesday).
Jordan, who negotiated an early release from Newey’s Red Bull contract in April and has never refused to discuss his client’s options, this time stated, “I am not prepared to comment—in any form.”
Team owner Lawrence Stroll said in an interview with Bloomberg yesterday, “Adrian and I have been discussing not just for months, but for years.”
“Adrian is clearly the most talented and gifted individual in F1, given his track record and history.”
“I would be very pleased if Adrian were to join our team, as I believe every other F1 team on the grid would feel exactly the same.”
Asked if Newey would join Aston Martin, Stroll replied, “I certainly hope so.”
Finally, amid rising speculation about an upcoming announcement, a spokesperson for Aston Martin said, “Adrian has been linked with many teams and would be an asset to any team, but we have nothing to announce.”
