Krack discusses Newey’s possible impact at Aston Martin F1, yet remains non-committal on the rumours.
Aston Martin F1’s team principal, Mike Krack, has outlined how Adrian Newey could fit into his team despite several senior positions already being filled.
The designer has been strongly linked with Aston Martin recently, with some claiming that a deal had been struck. Although Krack refrained from confirming whether this was the case, he described how a figure like Newey would integrate into Aston Martin F1’s hierarchy.
Rumours from Italy earlier in the month suggested that Newey had agreed to move to Silverstone, turning down an offer from Ferrari to lead Aston Martin’s technical team.
However, with Enrico Cardile set to become Ferrari’s Chief Technical Director in 2025, and former Red Bull member Dan Fallows currently holding the position of Technical Director at Aston Martin, there appears to be no obvious opening for Newey.
Nevertheless, Krack was undisturbed by this prospect, stating that a modern F1 team is “so expansive”.
“It’s not as if you need to make huge changes. There was a time when one team had seven technical directors,” he explained.
“So, we are very far from that. For someone like Newey, you have to make every effort to integrate and adjust your structure to get the most out of it.”
Krack, who joined Aston Martin F1 himself in January 2022, declined to comment on the speculations regarding Newey, but mentioned that the team being linked to such names indicated it was an “attractive” prospect.
“I was on holiday over the summer! So I really can’t comment on that, but you keep asking me this question, and again, I can only repeat what we’ve said.”
“We are becoming an increasingly attractive team. We have a superb structure in place to develop. Therefore, it’s an honour for us to be associated with such a potentially great name.”
