Adrian Newey Hints at Next Team, Seeks F1 Challenge

16/07/2024

Adrian Newey teases a new F1 challenge and playfully hints at his next team’s name, stirring media speculation.

Adrian Newey is currently not revealing more about his future in the media.

The Briton, set to leave Red Bull by March 31, 2025, will be free to immediately join a new F1 team, which is of great interest considering the 2026 regulations.

Ferrari, Aston Martin F1, Williams, and Mercedes F1 are contenders and are courting the renowned designer, which amuses and flatters Newey.

“It wasn’t a big surprise when other teams showed their interest after I announced my departure, but I won’t make a hasty decision about my future,” he shares today.

“I need a break to decide if I want to try my luck in F1 again. I also don’t want to risk stagnating, I need a realistic challenge.”

However, Newey seems inclined to continue, given his lifelong passion for the sport.

“After decades in Formula 1, I’ve gotten used to the constant pressure. If you’re not winning, you try to figure out why, and if you are, you try to maintain that level.”

“It’s a relentless schedule, but motorsport has always been in my blood.”

When asked about his preferred team, Newey smiles and hints at all the possibilities circulating in the media: Ferrari, Aston Martin F1, Williams, and even Mercedes, implying a departure from Verstappen.

“There are drivers, like Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, with whom I would have loved to work, but so far, it wasn’t the right place or the right time for us to meet.”

“I got along extremely well with Nigel Mansell at Williams, even though he was quite difficult, and with Max Verstappen, with whom it was a tremendous pleasure to work at Red Bull, and we might see him elsewhere…”

“I don’t know what the future holds, but instead of traveling the world to attend Grands Prix this summer, I’ll be able to see my family. In June, Mandy and I took our two dogs, Yogi and Benji, for a week-long trip along the south coast, which was a lot of fun.”
