Post-Italian Grand Prix stats highlight Ferrari’s record-setting performance, dominating the historic Monza circuit.
As after every Grand Prix, it’s time to review the most notable statistics, the records that were broken, the remarkable streaks still ongoing or those that came to an abrupt halt last weekend…
Qualifying
Lando Norris has achieved, for the first time in his career, 2 consecutive poles. This marks his fourth pole in 7 Grand Prix.
Norris is the fifth different pole-sitter at Monza over the last five years, yet none have won the race.
Recall that last year, Lando Norris qualified 9th at Monza…
McLaren secured its ‘first front row’ at Monza since 2012. Lewis Hamilton won that year.
Qualifying 7th, Max Verstappen recorded his worst qualifying result since Singapore 2023 (where he was eliminated in Q2).
Sergio Pérez finished just 40 thousandths behind his teammate in qualifying. Reminder, Checo hasn’t beaten Max Verstappen in qualifying since Miami 2023.
Albon has always reached Q3 at Monza in 4 attempts.
Nico Hülkenberg has already made it to Q3 seven times this year.
Fernando Alonso missed Q3 by one hundredth of a second…
Yuki Tsunoda has been eliminated in Q1 in two of the last three races.
Lance Stroll has been eliminated in Q1 in the last three races, and has always been eliminated in Q1 at Monza for the past three years.
The Saubers finished 19th and 20th in Q1… for the second consecutive Grand Prix.
The race
7 times! Norris has lost the lead (at the end of the first lap) every time he started from the front – 5 times in Grand Prix, twice in Sprints.
Ferrari is the third team to win in the last three races. The list includes McLaren, Mercedes F1, but not Red Bull.
Charles Leclerc is also recognized for his consistency: he has made the last three F1 podiums.
Leclerc becomes the fourth driver to win at least 2 Grands Prix this year, coinciding with the 5th anniversary of his first F1 victory at Spa. It’s also, of course, his second win at Monza, following his memorable 2019 victory.
Ferrari has become the first constructor to win 20 times at the same circuit in the history of the World Championship.
McLaren achieved its first podium at Monza since its 1-2 finish in 2021 (Daniel Ricciardo-Lando Norris).
This is only the second time this season that both McLaren drivers have simultaneously made the podium (after Hungary).
Norris and Piastri are the top scorers of the last five Grands Prix (85 points each).
Carlos Sainz’s fourth place for Ferrari marked his seventh consecutive top-six finish, with just one podium in this stretch (third place in Austria).
Lewis Hamilton has not been on the Monza podium since 2019.
Max Verstappen has only made the podium once in the last four races (second place at Zandvoort). He hasn’t won in 7 Grands Prix!
Last year at this time, Verstappen was celebrating his 10th consecutive victory. Yesterday, he finished 37 seconds behind the winner.
This marks the 11th time Perez has finished in the points at Monza, the longest ongoing streak for any driver. Notably, Checo briefly led the race yesterday.
With a 9th place finish for Williams, Alex Albon has scored points at Monza for the second consecutive year. He scores for the third time this season, as does Kevin Magnussen.
Colapinto finished 12th in his first Grand Prix. Logan Sargeant hadn’t done better than 11th (at Silverstone) this year. He is the first Argentine to finish a Grand Prix since Gastón Mazzacane.
Carlos Sainz celebrated his 30th birthday during the Italian Grand Prix. The last driver to win on his birthday was Jean Alesi with Ferrari, in Montreal in 1995.
Since the introduction of the points-based penalty system 10 years ago, Magnussen has become the first driver to accumulate the critical threshold of 12 points in one year. He will thus be the first driver to be suspended for a race for this reason (and the first since Grosjean in 2012, following the first-lap crash at Spa).
