Monza On Track: First F1 Upgrade Phase Completed

07/08/2024

Monza gears up for 2026, completing the initial phase of upgrades on time, signaling readiness for future races.

Italian Grand Prix officials express confidence in a new deal with Formula 1.

Monza has successfully met the required upgrade deadlines, with the 2024 Italian Grand Prix scheduled for late August to early September.

The circuit has been fully resurfaced, the pit lane redesigned, and parts of the infrastructure modernised.

These efforts are part of a broader modernisation project that the Autodromo must undertake to secure its spot on the Formula 1 calendar.

However, Geronimo La Russa, President of the Automobile Club of Milan, speaking at Monza on Monday, remains optimistic.

“The Monza GP is an icon of Italy in the world. I am certain it will continue to be a key player in the World Championship even beyond 2025.”

Angelo Sticchi Damiani, President of the Automobile Club of Italy (ACI), shares this sentiment: “We want this circuit to be modern and not just for one week a year.”

He noted that the contract for Italy’s other F1 circuit on the calendar, Imola, is also set to expire next year.

“Is it still possible to have two Grand Prix in Italy after 2026?” Damiani rhetorically asked.

“The dream of two Italian races has already become a reality, let’s hope it continues.”
