Perez Vows Focus After Disastrous Montreal GP

09/06/2024

Perez faces a tough challenge as he pledges to regain focus following another difficult weekend in Montreal.

Sergio Perez renewed his contract with Red Bull Racing earlier in the week, but this weekend, as in Monaco, he failed to deliver his best performance.

Following a disappointing qualifying session, the Mexican also crashed his F1 during the race, failing to score any points. He nearly got eliminated at the start after a collision with Pierre Gasly, which, fortunately, ended without further incident.

After the race, the Red Bull driver reflected on his disappointing weekend.

“It was a very challenging weekend. The first part of the race was compromised by the damage from Gasly. The second part was looking much better. In the third part, we were just stuck there.”

“There was only one line, so we couldn’t overtake. Unfortunately, that meant that by the end, I was pushing and ended up making a mistake in turn 6, which was one of the most challenging corners where many drivers erred. Sadly, I couldn’t control the car.”

“I made a mistake. I think it’s time to regroup and focus. The season is long. Two races ago, we were competitive. I can return to that level, without a doubt.”

The competition is closing in. Perez has noticed this too, though he believes better times are ahead for his team.

“I think there will definitely be some good tracks coming up where we can hopefully be at our best and score points. Max won here, so it’s possible.”
