Montreal GP Ricciardo Eager to Revive 2014 Glory

Ricciardo Relishes Return to Montreal, Site of First Win

04/06/2024

Daniel Ricciardo revisits Montreal, eager to replicate his 2014 Formula 1 triumph and gather more points for RB F1.

Daniel Ricciardo is delighted to return to Montreal, the scene of his first Formula 1 victory in 2014. The RB F1 driver looks forward to revisiting fond memories and achieving success once again.

“I adore Montreal—the location, the circuit, and I’m very excited about the prospect of returning. This year marks a decade since my first-ever win here in Formula 1,” recalls the Australian racer.

“Of course, I missed the race last year, so I’m more than ready to have a great weekend and add a few more points to my tally. Maple syrup, poutine, and good times are on the menu!”

Yuki Tsunoda is eager to score his initial points in Canada: “I’m looking forward to being in Canada, mainly because I love Montreal. I’ll be spending a few days here with friends before the race.”

“Although I enjoy this circuit, I’ve never scored points here, so that’s my number one goal for the weekend. Two weeks ago, I scored points in Monaco for the first time, and I’d like to tick off another circuit where I haven’t scored yet.”

“The team is performing really well at the moment; everything is falling into place, so we just need to keep focusing on ourselves and push hard to make it into Q3 on Saturday and secure more points on Sunday.”

A F1 “stiffer and more precise”

Alan Permane, the sporting director of the team, outlines the technical requirements for the car on the Canadian track and discusses the challenges of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

“After a couple of short weeks in Europe, we return to North America for the Canadian Grand Prix. Set on an artificial island in the St. Lawrence Seaway with downtown Montreal as a backdrop, the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve is a firm favorite among drivers and teams.”

“The circuit demands a certain compromise in car setup: low-speed corners and kerbs require flexibility, but also rapid direction changes that need a stiffer and more precise vehicle.”

“The long straightaways allow for reduced drag compared to recent races. We are eager to continue the point streak with our 2024 car, the VCARB 01.”
