Despite breaking down in Monaco, Alonso remains delighted with his new Valkyrie.
Fernando Alonso, an Aston Martin F1 driver since last year, received a splendid gift this Wednesday. Indeed, he took delivery of his Aston Martin Valkyrie, the 1000-horsepower hypercar designed several years ago by the British brand with assistance from Red Bull, its sponsor at the time.
Adopting the colors of the team’s Formula 1 single-seaters, the Valkyrie also features blue and red in its broad diffuser, as well as a “Caution Hot” warning on the rear and Alonso’s logo on the headrests. The accelerator pedal also has a red ’14’ affixed.
“It’s hard to express how eagerly I anticipated this day,” Alonso stated. “Sitting behind the wheel of my own Valkyrie, a car I designed in close collaboration with the Q by Aston Martin team, is certainly an unforgettable day.”
“The Valkyrie is truly an F1 car for the road, with so much knowledge and technology drawn from Aston Martin’s extensive track experience, and I am eager to hit the road.”
The Valkyrie was also developed by Adrian Newey, who led the project. Ironically, Alonso received his Valkyrie just days before a potential announcement of the engineer’s arrival at the Silverstone team.
Unfortunately, this first day was marred by a mechanical issue, and the car had to be towed through the streets of Monaco, naturally attracting the interest of onlookers.
