Mick Schumacher could return to Formula 1 in 2026 as Cadillac F1 targets experienced drivers for its highly anticipated grid debut.
Mick is reportedly in discussions for a potential return to Formula 1 with the new Cadillac F1 team, which is set to join the grid in 2026.
This weekend’s Miami Grand Prix wasn’t just about racing, it also sparked serious rumors around Cadillac’s driver lineup. While much of the attention was on Sergio Perez, the experienced Red Bull driver backed by billionaire Carlos Slim, Perez himself was noticeably absent from Cadillac’s launch event held at Queen Miami Beach.
One familiar face who did attend both the Grand Prix and the Cadillac event? Mick Schumacher. The former Haas driver was seen at the paddock alongside his friend Esteban Ocon, fueling speculation that negotiations are underway.
Sources suggest talks between Schumacher, currently racing in the World Endurance Championship with Alpine, and Cadillac took place over the weekend. If confirmed, it could mark the end of Schumacher’s three-year wait to return to F1.
He’s reportedly being considered as a teammate to Perez, but that could depend on whether American IndyCar star Colton Herta secures a Formula 1 super licence. Herta would need to finish at least fourth in this year’s IndyCar standings to qualify, but after four races, he sits only eighth.
Ralf Schumacher, Mick’s uncle and former F1 driver, addressed the growing buzz around Cadillac.
“Mick has solid F1 experience and knows how to handle pressure. Things weren’t easy for him at Haas, especially under [Guenther] Steiner, but his move to endurance racing has gone well, something that matters,” said Ralf. “Cadillac needs someone reliable, a team player who won’t crash and can help build something from the ground up.”
