Sergio Perez and Mick Schumacher are at the center of growing rumors surrounding Cadillac’s potential F1 lineup ahead of Miami’s race weekend.
This weekend’s Formula 1 event in Miami is buzzing with excitement, and Sergio Perez’s presence is adding fuel to the fire. The Red Bull Racing driver will be at the race, marking his first appearance since the end of the 2024 season.
At first glance, there’s nothing unusual about Perez’s attendance. The Mexican driver has a home in the lively coastal city, known for its vibrant Latino-American culture.
However, the real intrigue lies in the timing of his visit. On Saturday evening, Cadillac, the new F1 team set to debut in 2026, is hosting a high-profile “red carpet” event at Queen Miami Beach. The automotive brand will reveal its F1 car livery, and the event is expected to be one of the cultural highlights of the Grand Prix weekend, with Hollywood stars in attendance.
Rumors swirling in the Miami paddock suggest that Perez could be more than just a guest. Some insiders are speculating that he could be announced as Cadillac F1’s first driver, despite his recent departure from Red Bull due to disappointing performances at the end of last season.
Since then, Perez’s stock has risen. His potential successors at Red Bull, Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda, have struggled to match Max Verstappen’s pace, further boosting Perez’s reputation. The 35-year-old driver remains closely tied to billionaire Carlos Slim and his companies, including Telmex, while securing a sponsorship deal with Heineken, which fuels further speculation about a return to the F1 grid.
In addition to the Cadillac event, representatives from Cadillac and General Motors will be present in the F1 paddock throughout the weekend.
Mick Schumacher’s Name in the Mix
Another name frequently mentioned in connection with Cadillac F1 is Mick Schumacher. Though Schumacher will not be attending the Miami GP, his F1 future remains in focus. Despite stepping down from his reserve role at Mercedes, Schumacher has made it clear that Formula 1 is still a key part of his career, saying, “If a new opportunity arises, I will seize it.”
Franz Tost, former team principal of Racing Bulls, believes Schumacher could be a great fit for Cadillac: “I hope it’s not too late for Mick. With proper preparation, he would be a solid choice for Cadillac.”
Even Bernie Ecclestone, the former head of F1, has not ruled out a possible Schumacher return. He pointed out the appeal of the Schumacher name in the United States: “If Michael had been alongside him, Mick would still be racing in F1 today. The Schumacher name has huge recognition in the U.S., even more than in Europe. F1 could still benefit from that name.”
As the Miami GP unfolds, all eyes will be on the potential driver announcements for Cadillac, with Perez and Schumacher both in the spotlight.
