Michael Schumacher, guided by wife Corinna, signs Jackie Stewart’s helmet in rare gesture for a powerful dementia charity cause.
In a touching and symbolic moment, Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher has signed one of Sir Jackie Stewart’s old racing helmets — a gesture made possible with the help of his wife, Corinna.
Schumacher, a seven-time F1 world champion, has not appeared in public for over a decade following a devastating brain injury sustained in a skiing accident in 2013. Since then, updates on his condition have been rare and closely guarded by his family.
But when 85-year-old Stewart set out to collect the signatures of every living F1 world champion on one of his old helmets — to be auctioned in support of dementia research — Corinna stepped in.
“She felt it was important because all the other living champions had signed,” Stewart explained.
With Corinna gently guiding his hand, Schumacher, now 56, managed to add a simple “MS” to the helmet — a stark but moving contrast to the full signature he once gave with ease.
“It’s wonderful that Michael was able to contribute to such a meaningful cause,” said Stewart, a three-time world champion himself. “Thanks to Corinna’s help, the collection is now complete.”
