Miami GP May Mark Sargeant's F1 Finale

End of the Road for Sargeant at Miami GP? Antonelli Set for Williams Stint

02/05/2024

Amidst swirling rumors at the Miami Grand Prix, Logan Sargeant might face his final F1 race, as Kimi Antonelli is tipped to join Williams in Imola.

Strong rumors have been circulating since F1 arrived in the Miami paddock in recent hours: this Miami GP could be Logan Sargeant’s last Formula 1 race.

According to these rumors, Toto Wolff’s protégé, 17-year-old Kimi Antonelli, is preparing to make his immediate debut with Williams at the next Grand Prix in Imola.

The young Italian tested the 2022 Mercedes F1 car at Imola just a few days ago.

“It is said that from Imola, Kimi will be immediately in F1,” writes Leo Turrini, an Italian F1 journalist.

A hurdle for Antonelli will be obtaining his mandatory F1 super license, the minimum age having been raised to 18 years after Max Verstappen’s debut ten years ago. And it is this request for an exemption, which has been filed with the FIA, that has triggered the rumors.

“Is it a good idea to put him immediately in a Williams? It’s not really a good car,” adds Turrini. “I hope Toto Wolff knows what he’s doing.”

Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher, as expected, thinks his nephew Mick would be a better candidate, but he supports the decision to oust Sargeant.

“I think he and the team would do themselves a favor if they could find a solution. I don’t understand the patience they have had with him.”

“He is clearly out of his depth, he has made numerous mistakes, and his body language speaks volumes. Eddie Jordan or Frank Williams would never have had so much patience.”
