Toto Wolff, Mercedes F1 team principal, says he has already received messages from F1 drivers eyeing the open seat that Lewis Hamilton will leave at Mercedes at the end of the year.
Hamilton and Mercedes are entering their final year together before the driver moves to Ferrari for 2025, aiming to embrace one last significant challenge in his already highly successful and record-filled racing career.
The question for Mercedes is who they will choose to replace the most titled F1 driver in history.
“Yes, as you can imagine, we have already looked at the available options,” admits Wolff.
“We like the opportunities that present themselves to us, and perhaps we will take some risks.”
“The entire spectrum of drivers is considered, from a rookie with no F1 experience to a very experienced one. As you can imagine, we have had a lot of phone calls and WhatsApp messages from the very first day!”
“Managers never waste time after an announcement. But we will take our time because the spectrum ranges from very young talents who could be the future to the other spectrum, those drivers who still offer a lot of performance and very rich knowledge.”
