Mercedes F1's Puzzle Solved, Says Wolff at Monaco

Wolff Reveals: Mercedes F1 Unlocks Crucial Breakthrough

17/06/2024

Wolff declares Mercedes F1 has solved a major puzzle, marking a significant turnaround in their race strategy.

Toto Wolff believes that Mercedes F1 has identified the missing puzzle piece to unlock the pace of the W15, has installed it, and now “everything is fine.”

The team had issues with correlation between factory and track, Wolff noted, stating they had found more downforce but it wasn’t reflected in lap times.

However, recently there has been a notable improvement in Mercedes’ performance.

The introduction of a new front wing on the W15 at the Monaco Grand Prix was a “eureka moment” for the F1 team in terms of flexible front wings… which has angered Red Bull.

George Russell clinched Mercedes F1’s first podium of the season at the Canadian Grand Prix, a race where Lewis Hamilton finished fourth, marking his best result.

“There is no magic solution in Formula 1, I’ve often said. It was thus a constant effort to understand what was going wrong.”

“I know everyone has tired of this answer, but you cannot simply reverse the performances of the cars. We look at Red Bull and that’s what we want our car to emulate. We really need to work on the issues.”

“There seemed to be no correlation between the wind tunnel and the track, and the car was difficult to drive, the ride was not good, the bouncing or porpoising was returning.”

“And then we had a clear indication of what was missing in the puzzle. We put the missing piece in place and I think now everything is fine.”

Developments… and new recruits are on the horizon!

Wolff hints that Mercedes is set to welcome new recruits very soon, along with further enhancements for the W15.

“I think since Imola, we’ve taken the right steps and added parts to the car that worked.”

“This is something we’ve struggled with over the past two years. And now we seem to be adding performance every weekend.”

“And with the arrival of new staff and new parts in Barcelona, this should help us. So, I’m very hopeful that we can continue on this positive trajectory.”
