George Russell aims for a win at the Canadian GP following a significant pole, boosting Mercedes F1’s competitive spirit.
George Russell clinched pole position at the Canadian Grand Prix, marking his second career pole after Hungary in 2022. The Mercedes F1 driver did not hide his elation, even as Max Verstappen secured second place, matching his rival’s time.
“It’s incredible, it feels so good! Thanks to everyone at the factory. We were hoping that our season would start anew in Monaco, and that’s exactly what’s happening here,” declared the British driver after the session.
He explained how he was uplifted by the Canadian crowd: “Every time we come to Montreal, there’s an incredible energy. It’s fantastic. I’m really looking forward to tomorrow, this is the first step done, we must go for the win tomorrow.”
When asked if he could contend for victory against Verstappen and the McLarens, Russell was optimistic: “Why not? Obviously, we’ll see, but the car was very good, we brought some upgrades in Monaco, and we’re truly in the fight now, so we’re going all out tomorrow!”
