Mercedes F1 Hires Simone Resta for Key Role

Mercedes F1 Hires Simone Resta for Key Role

20/03/2024

In a strategic move, Mercedes F1 brings on Simone Resta, ex-Ferrari and Haas designer, as Director of Strategic Development, signaling a major step in their ambitious restructuring.

The appointment of the 53-year-old marks a pivotal moment in Mercedes’ restructuring efforts as the team aims to regain its competitive edge.

Resta has previously collaborated with the team’s Technical Director, James Allison, during the latter’s tenure at Ferrari from 2013 to 2016. He was also loaned out to Sauber / Alfa Romeo and Haas F1 in recent years by Scuderia.

The Italian will join Mercedes, the eight-time constructors’ champion, at an as-yet-unspecified date in 2025, following the conclusion of his notice period.

Additionally, another Ferrari engineer, Enrico Sampo, will also join the Silver Arrows as Head of Performance Software Applications in the simulator program, a position he already held at Ferrari.

Furthermore, Mercedes has decided to replace its Performance Director Loic Serra, who was poached by Ferrari last year, with David Nelson, who has been promoted internally to the role.

It remains to be seen whether the notice periods for Serra and Resta can be shortened by mutual agreement between Ferrari and Mercedes F1.
