Lewis Hamilton is counting on crucial updates from Mercedes to close out the 2024 season on a high. As the final Grands Prix approach, these changes will determine how he finishes his journey with the German team.
The team’s last major package came at the Belgian Grand Prix, but Mercedes decided to remove the new floor, halting the car’s earlier progress.
In the four races before the summer break, the team won three times, including merit-based victories in Britain and Belgium.
Since then, their best result was third, thanks to George Russell in Azerbaijan, but he was only fifth before the penultimate lap crash that eliminated Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez ahead of him. Ferrari has performed well since the break, widening the gap over Mercedes.
“I don’t think our F1 car has changed since the summer break.”
“Our rivals have gained tenths, we brought an upgrade for Spa with the floor that should have been the launchpad for those gains, but we didn’t use it in the end.”
“The others succeeded, and since Zandvoort and Monza, they’ve brought more upgrades, particularly Ferrari and McLaren as well.”
“We’re expecting ours soon, fixes, but McLaren seems to be evolving and progressing the fastest if you look at their impressive rear wing.”
“We just had to wait and do our best with what we had while waiting for the parts in Austin. From there, we’ll know how we can finish this season and our journey together.”
