Mercedes F1 Eyes Victory Targets Hungaroring Win

Hungaroring Test: Mercedes F1 Chases Continued Triumph

17/07/2024

Mercedes F1 heads to the Hungaroring, aiming to prove their recent successes are just the beginning of a winning streak.

Mercedes F1 is coming off an unexpected streak of two consecutive wins at the Red Bull Ring and Silverstone.

While the first was lucky for George Russell, benefitting from a clash between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen, the second was thoroughly deserved by Lewis Hamilton.

Now, the W15 needs to confirm it can consistently challenge for victories against Red Bull, McLaren F1, and Ferrari.

This is certainly the hope of Toto Wolff, the team’s director, ahead of this weekend’s Hungarian GP.

“We are approaching the upcoming Hungaroring-Spa-Francorchamps double-header with definite momentum,” the Austrian enthuses.

“We have continued to make progress with the W15 in recent races, achieving remarkable results in Austria and at Silverstone. However, we know that we do not yet have a car that can fight for victory every weekend. The team is working hard to reach new levels of performance, which, we hope, will allow us to achieve this. These efforts will continue over the next two races and until the factory shuts down for the break afterward.”

First up is a much slower circuit in Hungary.

“The Hungaroring differs from the last two circuits. Unlike Silverstone, it features many narrow and twisty sections, with only one significant straight. It also contains high-speed corners, so it will be another good test of the gains we have made in these cornering speed ranges.”

“We approach the weekend focused on doing the best job possible. We hope to maintain this positive trajectory and finish the first half of the season as well as possible.”
