Russell clinched a stunning Las Vegas pole, highlighting Mercedes’ dominance while admitting uncertainty over their remarkable weekend speed.
George Russell reaffirmed Mercedes F1’s strong form by securing pole position in Las Vegas, as the team dominated every session of the weekend. The British driver admitted after qualifying that he hadn’t expected to take pole.
“Honestly, no! It’s amazing to be back on pole; we’ve been so fast all weekend. I knew our final lap in Q3 would be the one that mattered. I made a small mistake in my first lap and had to adjust my front wing,” Russell explained.
“There was a moment when I thought I wouldn’t have time to complete that lap. But I’m happy. Now we need to dig deeper to understand why we’ve been so quick this weekend.”
He emphasized that he gave it everything to claim a pole he now wants to turn into a victory: “Sometimes, you have to lay your cards on the table. I was confident that a clean lap would secure the front row. But pole position is incredible, and now we have to convert it into a win.”
