McLaren proudly presents its striking MCL39 livery as the team and Norris gear up to defend their hard-earned F1 crown.
The MCL39 livery was unveiled to the public at London’s O2 Arena, as well as to those who followed the F1 presentation show.
The MCL39 carries the heavy responsibility of succeeding the MCL38, McLaren F1’s first championship-winning car since 1998.
For the 2025 livery, Woking states that “the 2025 design continues to use McLaren’s iconic papaya color palette, incorporating anthracite and a touch of teal as a tribute to the team’s rich historical tradition of maintaining its livery patterns after winning a Championship.”
A tradition the public had certainly had time to forget since 1998.
And a surprise for those who enjoyed the camouflage livery from the shakedown—some elements of that design will be carried over to this year’s car… but only on the drivers’ suits, “with a diagonal cut integrating anthracite into the papaya design.”
McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown hailed the MCL39’s presentation on Tuesday evening after the London show.
“We are thrilled to unveil our superb 2025 livery for the MCL39, which our exciting driver duo, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, will take to the track. This is a special time of the year as we begin our defense of the FIA Formula 1 Constructors’ World Championship title.”
“True to McLaren’s tradition, our 2025 design is a strong evolution of the title-winning livery. We are now eager for the season to begin and extremely grateful for the continued support of our valued partners and incredible fans.”
Team principal Andrea Stella remained highly corporate in his post-show statements, notably offering strong praise for the Mercedes V6—far from insignificant ahead of the new engine regulations in 2026.
“The unveiling of the MCL39’s new livery is another key milestone in our journey towards competition this season and reflects the incredible work and commitment of the team on our 2025 car.”
“As we anticipate increased competition across the grid in this final year under the current regulations, we have worked hard to be ready from the outset and maintain a high level of excellence in everything we do. The goal is to continue fighting for podiums and race wins in the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship.”
“I am grateful for the incredible work the team has done and, in particular, for the support of our commercial partners and passionate fans during last season’s title campaign. I look forward to another year filled with memorable moments together. Our collaboration with Mercedes HPP is also invaluable to the team, and with continuous collective effort, we can hit the track fully prepared for the season ahead.”
Norris aims to capitalize on 2025
Lando Norris, who stated that McLaren F1 would have no excuses if it failed to win the titles this year, shared his excitement.
“It’s great to see the new 2025 livery, which is an evolution of last year’s championship-winning colors, and I’m sure fans will love the tradition that has been incorporated into the design. I can’t wait to see it on track in Bahrain for testing.”
“I’ve spent my entire Formula 1 career with McLaren, so winning the Championship with the team was an incredible feeling. Everyone’s hunger for success remains intact. Now, I want to capitalize on the momentum we’ve built over the past two seasons to fight for both Championships this year.”
Piastri put in the work this winter
Oscar Piastri, now entering his third season with McLaren F1, says he worked hard over the winter to elevate his performance.
“Last year was a very positive second season for me and the team, so it’s great to see the new livery, which is strongly influenced by our 2024 championship-winning design. I’m excited to start this new season, and racing the MCL39 for the first time this year in Melbourne, on my home track, will be a special moment.”
“I’ve worked a lot during the offseason and approach this new year with plenty of optimism and confidence, aiming to make it another memorable season for everyone at McLaren.”
