McLaren is preparing a bold new move in Formula 1, ending its Castore deal early to team up with sports giant Puma.
McLaren, currently the fastest team on the Formula 1 grid, is preparing to sign a major new sponsorship deal.
According to German media outlets including Sky Deutschland and Bild, the Woking-based team is close to partnering with global sportswear giant Puma.
The agreement will focus on McLaren’s off-track apparel. Alpinestars will continue to supply the team’s race suits, shoes and gloves.
Right now, McLaren’s clothing partner is British brand Castore, under a contract that was originally set to run until 2027.
“It was an unexpected move,” Bild reported.
The reasons behind the early switch are not yet clear. However, McLaren CEO Zak Brown explained that “the time has come to explore new opportunities that better align with McLaren Racing’s strategic direction.”
Sky Deutschland reports that the Puma partnership will begin in 2026 and will run for several years.
As for Castore, the brand is expected to move over to Haas, the American-based Formula 1 team.
Puma already has strong ties in F1, partnering with Ferrari, Aston Martin, Williams and Sauber. Mercedes, meanwhile, left Puma for Adidas earlier this year after Lewis Hamilton’s transfer to Ferrari.
