Speed and strategy: McLaren set for Jeddah showdown

McLaren eyes another strong weekend as Norris and Piastri look to unleash their pace on one of F1’s fastest street tracks.

After a mixed start to the season in Bahrain, McLaren F1 is heading to Jeddah with high hopes—and a car built for speed. Lando Norris, despite finishing third behind his teammate Oscar Piastri, wasn’t entirely satisfied with his performance but believes the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix could be a turning point.

“I’m looking forward to getting back on track in Jeddah this weekend,” Norris said. “It’s one of the fastest circuits on the calendar, and we’ve got a quick car, so we’ll be pushing to finish this triple-header on a high.”

Norris acknowledged the team’s solid start to the season, praising the balance between celebration and analysis. “I’m proud of how we kicked things off. We took a moment to enjoy the result, but we also sat down as a team to learn and improve. I’m feeling good and ready to go again.”

For Oscar Piastri, the Bahrain win was a confidence booster, and he’s heading into the weekend eager to build on that momentum. “Winning in Bahrain felt incredible—not just the result, but the way we raced. Jeddah is a track I really enjoy, and I have great memories here, so I’m coming in with a lot of confidence.”

Team Principal Andrea Stella is expecting a high-intensity race on the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, known for its tight layout and blistering pace.

“After a strong showing in Bahrain, we immediately shift focus to Saudi Arabia,” Stella said. “Our early performance reflects the incredible work from the entire team in developing such a fast car. Jeddah is one of the quickest street circuits out there, and this year’s softer tire compounds could spice things up.”

He added, “Overtaking chances and race strategy will be key. We’re staying sharp and focused—we want to close out this opening stretch of the season with another strong result.”
