McLaren aims for dual F1 titles, balancing rising stars Norris and Piastri in a bid for championship dominance.
Zak Brown anticipates challenges managing his driver duo of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in the future. The McLaren F1 CEO praised their efforts in pursuing the Constructors’ title but hopes one of them can claim the Drivers’ crown in 2025.
“I think you want to sleep well at night. Why not be ambitious and say, ‘I want both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ titles’? That’s the goal for next year. Lando has scored eight poles, which is incredible. Oscar had a fantastic season,” Brown stated.
“So I believe we have two drivers capable of fighting for the championship. And I’m confident that everyone here will provide them with another race-winning, championship-contending car.”
“The good news is that our season carries on from Abu Dhabi. We’re on an incredible run, and I have great confidence in the race team and everyone at the factory. We’ll celebrate a bit more this week and then go full throttle toward 2025.”
Brown praised the relationship between Norris and Piastri, at least for now, and McLaren is nurturing this currently healthy dynamic: “Only one of them can finish first on a given weekend.”
“I think we saw that again in Qatar when we told Lando he didn’t need to change positions, and he insisted he owed one to his teammate. That’s the kind of teammates they are.”
“Of course, when it’s showtime, they both want to win, but they compete cleanly. I’m sure it’ll be challenging at times, but we’ll take it race by race.”
“What we do is treat everyone fairly, equally, and transparently so there are no surprises. We’ll see how the season unfolds, and hopefully, both drivers will be fighting for the Drivers’ championship in the final race of the year.”
“I’m sure it’ll be nerve-wracking, but they compete cleanly. That’s what matters most—they fight hard and want to win on the track. They don’t want anything handed to them.”
