Oscar Piastri storms to victory in Bahrain, leading McLaren to glory as Norris joins him on the podium after a fierce comeback.
A flawless win for Oscar Piastri. A strong comeback for Lando Norris. And a big statement from McLaren in Bahrain.
Team Principal Andrea Stella had reason to smile as he stood on the podium alongside his drivers at the Bahrain Grand Prix. After Oscar Piastri took a commanding victory and Lando Norris finished third, Stella joked about being caught off guard during the podium celebrations — where rosewater replaced champagne due to local rules.
“It doesn’t sting as much,” Stella laughed, “but I was slow to start spraying, so Oscar and Lando got me first. I clearly lost that battle!”
It was another standout weekend for McLaren. Piastri converted pole position into his second win of the season, showing control and confidence throughout. Norris, despite some early mistakes and a five-second penalty for lining up outside of his grid box, fought back to secure third.
Even with the penalty, Norris retains the lead in the Drivers’ Championship by three points over his teammate. In the Constructors’ standings, McLaren now holds a 58-point cushion over Mercedes.
“The undercut was powerful today — both in the race and on the podium!” Stella said with a smile. “But aside from that, it was a really strong day for us. Oscar had what I’d call a perfect race — honestly, a perfect weekend.”
“Lando’s penalty was unfortunate. Without it, he probably would’ve taken second. But he drove well, stayed focused, and delivered a great result. The race just ended a few laps too soon for him.”
The result marks a significant moment for the team — McLaren’s first ever win in Bahrain and a big leap forward in both championship fights.
“This means a lot,” Stella added. “It’s our second home race, and to take both pole and the win here is special. I want to thank every man and woman at McLaren for building such a fantastic car.”
Stella also took time to praise Piastri’s continued evolution behind the wheel, particularly as the young Australian celebrated his 50th Formula 1 Grand Prix.
“It really was a perfect weekend. Oscar’s shown incredible growth since last season. He’s calm, consistent, and sharp across every aspect of his driving. For someone with just 50 races, he’s already showing the maturity of a driver with twice that experience.”
McLaren’s resurgence continues to build momentum — and with a driver pairing that’s getting stronger by the race, the team is right where it wants to be.
