McLaren F1 Secures Piastri to Keep Distractions at Bay

McLaren has extended Oscar Piastri’s contract, ensuring stability and shutting down distractions from rival teams eager to lure the rising F1 star.

McLaren F1 has locked in Oscar Piastri for the long haul, extending his contract to ensure stability and focus. Team CEO Zak Brown made it clear: this move wasn’t about pressure—it was about keeping the team and driver on track without the noise of contract speculation or rival interest.

“There was no pressure from either side,” Brown explained. “We wanted stability and a clear path forward. When people aren’t distracted, they perform at their best.”

In Formula 1, distractions are part of the game, with teams always looking to lure talent away. McLaren, however, took proactive steps. “We knew exactly what we wanted to do,” Brown said. “We did a fantastic job. Every driver, every team, is always striving to improve, and we’re no different.”

That drive for improvement extends across the board. “Can Oscar still grow? Absolutely. Can Lando? Of course. Can Andrea [Stella] and I improve? Without a doubt. And we’ll do it together in the fantastic team environment we’ve built. That made the decision an easy one.”

Why McLaren is Betting on Piastri

Team principal Andrea Stella reinforced the faith McLaren has in their young driver: “Oscar has only been in F1 for two seasons, yet his performance level and maturity—on and off the track—have been exceptional.”

His contribution speaks for itself. “We win as a team, and the Constructors’ Championship is a sum of both drivers’ performances. Oscar’s growth has been impressive, and at no point has his trajectory slowed down.”

A Natural Partnership

For McLaren, committing to Piastri wasn’t just a business decision—it was a natural step. “It was the same for Oscar,” Stella noted. “There was never a discussion about ‘if we don’t do this, we’ll do something else.’ It just made sense.”

This decision wasn’t just about results; it was about culture. “Oscar’s ability to perform is clear, but just as important is how well he works with Lando. He fits McLaren perfectly, both in terms of personality and professionalism,” Stella added. “That’s a huge value for us in building a strong, long-term foundation for the team.”

Stability for the Future

For Brown, this is all about keeping McLaren on a steady path. “Our job is to bring stability—to our drivers, leadership, team, pit wall, sponsors, and our partnership with Mercedes HPP.”

And looking ahead? “I love that we sit here today knowing our race team will stay consistent for the foreseeable future. That stability is what allows us to keep building on our success.”

McLaren has made its move—keeping Piastri focused, committed, and ready to take the team even further.
