Stella Commends McLaren’s Solid Saudi Show

10/03/2024

McLaren F1’s strong performance in Jeddah, led by Oscar Piastri’s fourth-place finish, showcases a promising season start.

McLaren F1 finished just shy of the podium in Jeddah, courtesy of Oscar Piastri’s fourth place. Andrea Stella, the team’s director, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance on the Saudi track, including their race pace.

“Another strong result here in Saudi Arabia. Oscar drove very solidly throughout the weekend and capitalized on his good qualifying position from the day before by finishing fourth and executing a flawless race with tight but clean battles,” Stella observed.

“For Lando, we opted to split strategies as a team during the Safety Car, which could have put us in a very interesting position in the event of another Safety Car or a red flag, incidents that are not uncommon here in Saudi Arabia, making it a worthwhile opportunity to seize.”

“Unfortunately, a second Safety Car or red flag did not materialize, meaning Lando potentially lost a few positions from where we might have finished. Nevertheless, it was still a strong result and Lando displayed excellent driving skills.”

“We take the positives from the first two races, fully aware that the battle for the best development over the season lies ahead. We are pleased to be so close to the podium this early in the season and we know where we need to continue working to improve our MCL38.”
