Fresh off a Melbourne win, McLaren gears up for the first Sprint weekend of 2025, chasing a dominant performance in China.
McLaren kicked off the 2025 season with a statement win in Melbourne, thanks to Lando Norris. But they were left wondering what could have been—Oscar Piastri’s late mistake in the rain cost the team a perfect one-two finish.
Now, they’re heading to Shanghai with one goal: do better. The challenge? A Sprint weekend means limited practice time, so every lap counts.
Norris: “We need to stay focused”
“Starting the season with a win is a great feeling,” says Norris. “Shanghai is up next, and it’s also the first Sprint of the year. We’ve had a strong start, but now we need to stay focused, keep learning, and aim for consistent results. It’s a long season, and I’m excited to see what we can achieve.”
Another big motivation for the Brit? The fans. “The support in China last year was incredible. I can’t wait to race in front of them again. Let’s go!”
Piastri wants redemption
After his costly mistake in Melbourne, Oscar Piastri is eager to bounce back.
“I can’t wait to get back on track this weekend. Melbourne was really encouraging—it was so close to being an amazing result, but… The pace was there, and that gives me a lot of confidence moving forward.”
“And with the Sprint format, we’ve got more chances to score points. I’m ready to go all in.”
Stella: “We have to keep pushing”
Team boss Andrea Stella knows the importance of keeping momentum.
“Winning the season opener was great, but now our full focus is on Shanghai. Being the first Sprint event of 2025, it gives us more chances to score, but it also means less time to fine-tune the car.”
“We’ve built a fast machine, and both Lando and Oscar showed what they can do in Melbourne. But we need to stay grounded—our rivals still have more to show. We’ll give everything we’ve got once again.”
The battle continues. Shanghai is calling.
