While other teams have been announcing their new car presentation dates one after another, McLaren F1 started a series of teasers yesterday. Finally, the team unveiled its brand new livery, which will adorn Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri‘s MCL38s.
The design is similar to last year’s ‘stealth’ livery seen at the Singapore and Japan Grands Prix, featuring a predominantly orange front, as well as the rear wing, and black on the central part and around the cockpit.
Chrome remains one of the most visible sponsors, with Google’s colors on the engine cover and wheels, while the OKX platform takes up space on the rear wing and sidepods. The disappearance of light blue is notable, which isn’t a bad thing in terms of color harmony.
We will have to wait to see the MCL38, as the car presented is last year’s MCL60. The presentation date is set for February 14th, a week before the start of winter testing in Bahrain.
McLaren’s Ambitious Leap into 2024
Zak Brown, CEO of the team, has praised the progress made last year and aims to continue it: “We are excited to launch our 2024 Formula 1 livery ahead of the new season. The design is striking, and I can’t wait to go racing and see it come to life on the track next month.”
“We didn’t start the 2023 season as we had hoped, but Andrea and the team did an excellent job following the organizational restructuring that was implemented, and the hard work continues as we maintain this momentum into 2024.”
“I am confident that the thrilling pairing of Lando and Oscar will continue to create new great memories, after an impressive second half of the year that saw the team finish fourth in the championship with 302 points.”
“This is progress from the previous year as we continue our mission to push and compete at the front of the grid. We look forward to realizing our ambitions and with our valuable partners and fantastic fans on board, they will play a crucial role in this season’s journey. We are grateful for their ongoing support and know they share our passion for success.”
“High Performance” at Every Level
Andrea Stella, the team director, also extends thanks to McLaren’s sponsors, for whom this pre-season event seems tailor-made: “After a busy and productive off-season, we approach 2024 with the goal of continuing our journey to the front of the grid.”
“Last year allowed the team to lay solid foundations for the future by continuing to work hard, stay committed, make efforts, and demonstrate talent. With our infrastructure upgrades and personnel in place, we must continue to raise our standards and incorporate high performance into everything we do.”
“The 2024 livery looks great and I’m eager to see our driver duo, consisting of Lando and Oscar, take the MCL38 to the track next month. The support of our commercial partners and our incredible fans will play a significant role as we continue to stay united as a team throughout the upcoming season.”
“We have a lot of work ahead before hitting the track for the first race in Bahrain, but we are all focused on achieving our goals and starting the season on a strong footing.”
