Piastri: Disappointment Lingers, But McLaren Stays Ahead of Ferrari

Piastri acknowledges disappointment in qualifying but highlights McLaren’s edge over Ferrari ahead of a crucial Constructors’ Championship showdown.

Oscar Piastri had hoped for better than fourth place in qualifying for the Qatar Grand Prix. However, the McLaren F1 driver explained that he made no mistakes and couldn’t have gone much faster.

“I’m not 100% sure, I haven’t heard anything about that. Honestly, I was satisfied with my qualifying. There wasn’t much more to do—we didn’t have the pace for pole or second place. I’m happy with my performance, but the car just didn’t have enough speed,” Piastri said.

McLaren, however, managed to stay ahead of Ferrari, which is the most important factor for the Constructors’ Championship. The Australian hopes to secure the title tomorrow but remains focused on competing against Ferrari, who are strong over long stints.

“It’s important to stay ahead, of course. And while we’re disappointed to be third and fourth, we’re still ahead of Ferrari. At least we have that. We want to score solid points—it would be perfect to settle things, but we’ll focus on our race and see where we end up.”
