McLaren Dominate Spain as Piastri Leads Norris to Victory

Oscar Piastri secures McLaren’s stunning one-two in Spain, showcasing racecraft, tyre management, and top-tier strategy in Formula 1 action.

Piastri secured a highly strategic Spanish Grand Prix win, during which Max Verstappen made one more pit stop than the McLaren F1 drivers. The Australian was delighted with a perfect weekend, although he admitted to being concerned about Red Bull’s strategy early in the race.

“It was a surprise that Max went for three stops, and it didn’t work out for them. It’s been a very good weekend, the pace was strong, and we managed to turn things around when we needed to. I didn’t have my best Friday, so it’s great to bounce back after Monaco,” said Piastri.

“Hard to complain, very hard to complain! It’s a great season, this is the kind of weekend I want to deliver, we executed what we needed to when we needed to, the team gave me a great car, and I’m enjoying it. Thanks to the fans, we have a lot of support here.”

Asked about the end of the race following the Safety Car, which saw Nico Hülkenberg move up the field and Max Verstappen lose his cool, Piastri mainly reflected on a scare he experienced accelerating out of the final corner.

I saw Hülkenberg finished sixth (fifth after Max Verstappen’s penalty), which is impressive, credit to him! My restart felt okay but my tyres didn’t like it, I spun the wheels in sixth gear, it wasn’t perfect, I had to adjust to the grip with low fuel but it was very good.”

Lando Norris praised his teammate for a well-deserved win and was pleased with a strong result for both himself and the team.

“Oscar had a great race, I didn’t have the pace to fight him but I gave it everything. It was a long race, anything could have happened, he even had a slide on the restart, but we brought home a one-two, which is fantastic,” said Norris.
