Brown Blasts Verstappen’s Driving: ‘Scandalous and Unsafe’

McLaren’s Zak Brown denounces Verstappen’s conduct, urging him to uphold the standards expected of a world champion.

Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, labeled Max Verstappen’s driving as “scandalous” following two penalties at the Mexican Grand Prix.

After Verstappen received two 10-second penalties for forcing Lando Norris off the track, Brown stated that he endangered other drivers.

“Max is such a phenomenal racer; I don’t think he needs to drive like that. He should simply race like the world champion he is, not in such a scandalous manner.”

“It’s unnecessary, it endangers everyone, and it’s not clean racing. I felt the penalties were well-deserved. Hats off to the FIA stewards, and let’s hope for clean but intense racing for the rest of the year.”

Brown believes Verstappen clearly disrupted Norris’s race, spoiling both his own and his competitor’s chances.

“It likely cost us the race or a shot at victory. It’s quite disappointing because, even if he ruined his own race, he may have taken away our win.”
